I am a nurse, deacon and spiritual carer, have grown up in 5 countries and have traveled and worked all over the world. I have even stayed at Kilimanjaro, but it is here in this valley in Balestrand that I really find peace of mind.
I stroll cheerfully around the path and along the river. There are fish in this river too. Small trout. I have a flower book with me and learn the names of new plants. In the fall I pick blueberries as I walk.
WHAT REALLY INSPIRES ME? - MARGARETH SOPHIA THE MOUNTAIN WOMAN!
The English church in Balestrand Margeret Sophia Green Kvikne contracted tuberculosis and lived only 4 years after she married Knut Kvikne. Before she died, Knut Kvikne gave his wife a promise to build an English church in Balestrand. The church was named St. Olaf’s Church and was completed in 1897. Inside the church you will find a painting of the hotel lady and the mountain pioneer, as well as a commemorative plaque with a quote from David’s Psalm: “The Mountains shall bring Peace”.
I stop and sit on a rock and decompress my own thoughts and get new ideas. Sometimes memories come up and here is a nice place to share this with someone and process this. As a guest, would you like to share and process thoughts and am I also open to a diaconal conversation along the way as we go. I have experience.and speaks fluent English and has, among other things, worked in the Seamen’s Church in Spain
Up here and inside the valley is a small metal bridge. It’s rusty and old and crooked, but still solid. I call it “The bridge over troubled waters “ - Catchy title isn’t it?
